9.9.1. Check of the brake system on existence of leakages and damages

For check of the brake system on existence of leakages and damages the bottom of a body has to be dry that it was possible to see places of leakages. Brake fluid can follow also under a dirt layer. Dark damp stains or black damp dirt indicate possible places of a leakage.

SEQUENCE OF WORKS
1. Check all places of connections and connections of the brake system, supports and the main cylinder.

Fig. 8.7. Check of wear of brake hoses (shooter)

2. Examine and touch brake hoses for detection of damages. They have to keep elasticity, should not be damp, ground or with cracks. Otherwise replace them with STOA. Hoses should not be overwound and strongly tense (fig. 8.7).
3. Pipelines of the brake system are protected from corrosion by a plastic braid. If it is damaged, emergence of corrosion is possible. Therefore it is not necessary to clear pipelines of dirt the screw-driver, a metal brush or the corroding liquids.
4. Clear pipelines a rag and means for cold cleaning.
5. At damage of a protective braid apply primer for protection against corrosion on open places.
6. In case pipelines are pressed or have corrosion traces, replace them.
7. Check existence of protective caps on all unions for pumping. They are in the top part of brake supports.
8. Check pressure in the brake system as follows: press against the stop a brake pedal.
9. Even after several minutes of full loading the pedal should not "fail" further, otherwise laying in the main cylinder failed.
10. Untight laying does not lead to falling of level of brake fluid in a tank. But liquid during creation of pressure passes by the piston of the main cylinder without pressure.
11. Untight places in piston laying are defined only at exact check on STOA.

PRACTICAL ADVICE
Level of brake fluid
1. If overlays of blocks of disk brakes are already a little worn-out, the level of brake fluid begins to approach a tag of "MIN"; if slips new — level increases again. It is natural as at worn-out slips pistons of brake mechanisms leave farther outside and leave more space which is filled with brake fluid in cylinders of supports. Skilled mechanics use this circumstance for definition of a condition of wear of slips on the level of brake fluid. Certainly, it is possible, only if between check cycles liquid was not added.
2. Level of brake fluid in a tank below a tag of "MIN" is critical. As liquid does not evaporate and is not spent, the leakage takes place. As soon as possible it is necessary to find it. Dolivka of liquid — will not eliminate malfunction.
3. At malfunction in system of a hydraulic actuator of coupling on cars with the mechanical transmission the level of brake fluid can significantly go down. Reason: working liquid of a hydraulic actuator is replenished at the expense of a tank of brake fluid. Branch from a tank is located to a hydraulic actuator of coupling rather highly that the leakage in a hydraulic actuator could not influence operation of the brake system.
